God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way. And ME to share all the pain, laughter, tears, sorrow, happiness, sun and rain with you! Let us endure all the 暴风雨 and 彩虹 together!

Update on work

For those who didn't know about how's work for me, just a little update. ;)

Getting to get a hang of working life... ... just that I think I don't have social life after work. haha....

Getting more clients as the day goes by.... getting more confidence with myself... the way I handled and interact with my clients.... the type of interventions I give my clients....

I guess it is the experience.... especially when I am the only OT seeing clients... I guess I have to be little more hardworking to readup... research.... and ask the senior therapists regarding things that I am unsure.....

As time goes by, I am also given more responsibilities.... more roles and duties.... but well.... I like challenging stuffs... it keeps me going.... and of course.... to prove myself....

This is just the 3rd month of my job.... getting better and better.....

It's great to be recognize by the top and the clients for the effort that I have put in! I guess it is always these recognition to keep me going... stronger! ;)

Till then, Happy National Day!

Disgusted

I totally disgusted at people who have worked for at least 5 years and not having a SAVING at all!

That is not all... not to mentioned not giving your parents allowances.... How can one ask for money???

What's the point of showing generosity to others and then come back home to ask for money because of the action of your generosity?

I'm farking angry can....

If one cannot afford that lifestyle that he wants.... then save it.... what's the point of SPENDING all the money and realise that you have no money now....

Will one DIE if he don't play X-BOX at all?

Will one DIE if he spends lesser time on the phone?

Will one DIE if he spends lesser $ on expensive food?

NO!

Why must someone realize the importance of 'Saving for rainy days' ONLY when it happens?
I know it is hard to save... but little a day... even if one tries to save $50 a month.... for 5 years.... he would have save $3000 for the past 5 years!

I wouldn't want to bother about such situation now.... He, should be responsible for his own actions. He should have known all the consequences for his actions....

A sense of achievement

Today I finally started my running plan... ... Thanks wC for running with me... hehe.....

It is a achievement for me, at least for a start.

In total, with 1 rest..... I ran 13 rounds in the stadium and walk 4 rounds....
Ran 3 rounds, walk 1 round, ran 3 rounds, walk 1 round, ran 3 rounds, walk 1 round, rest for ~ 5-10 mins, ran 4 rounds and walk 1 round.....
Thus in TOTAL: 17 rounds x 400m = 6.8km!!

Hopefully I will make it a routine to run, rather than a 3-min fever..... =)

Anyone wants to run? =p msg me.... that's including zJ. lol

Brighten up my day

Today, 2 clients of mine makes my day.

"You know ah.... this thing that you do ah... when they do at HQ ah... always very pain one.... now you do not pain leh... can raise high more also....."

The maid added on....
"Come here 1 month plus... so good already....."

Another client.....
"You know ah... I always thought PTs are better than OTs. But ah... when I come here (where I work), then I see you stretch for me.... Then I know OTs can be so strong."

Well, the above are some "happy" clients but there are otherwise but like I always say,

"We can't please everyone all the time. Just do our best and be truthful to ourselves and that will be more than enough."

Another incident that makes my day... ...

(which was a shock at first)When I reached home, I saw a sticker with some words on the letter box. I took a small steps at a time, only to realize that it was a note that says something like,

"My 2yo son has playing with the letter box and placed their keys into your letter box.... please give us a call..... we stay at XX-XXX."

Without any hesitation, I went up the stairs to pass over the keys.

Another colleague of mine also said something last friday that I still remembers:

"I really appreciate you. Really. You have already experience alot at your age. Having to work for your education... ... God will see your hard work and will take good care of you. Really."

I really hope so too.... sometimes it is really great to have such colleagues around. ;) That brightens my day too.

Unmotivated

There is alot of things for me to do at home e.g. clean my room, packed my notes, etc. but I have been rather unmotivated to do any of these.

I have been lazing in my bed, taking my long sleep to recuperate myself from all the energy that I've used in work... as well as those sleepless night when I was a student. But none of these few weekends' sleep seems to help. I still feel tired.... perhaps what I need is some physical workout as well as some social activities.

But I hope I will soon be motivated to do things that I always wanted to do....

Hope is of no use.... Action speaks louder than words..... ;)

Working near your home

To many, working near home has many advantages, which I agree... but it has its disadvantages too.

Advantages:
- SAVE at least $80 on transportation
- Get to wake up slightly later

Disadvantage:
- Lesser social activities esp. when it is at town area ( I will hesitate to go to town after work esp. when home is just 15 mins walk from workplace....)

Thus, if you all want to arrange to meet.... try to arrange it in the east lah... haha.... if not... Friday's evening at Town will be okay too.... ;)

Working on my goals

Hey,

Currently I am starting to work on my goals. I started playing badminton with my colleagues. All of them played well. Not too sure if this will become a regular sports for me... but yes at the moment. =)

Gonna start on my sports/rock climbing with lenn soon..... have not been climbing for donkey years.... I'm sure I will enjoy it.

Enquire about some saving/saving investment/saving insurance plan with POSB when I went to apply for my Debit card and ask some stuff regarding my tuition fee loan that I took up.

Hehe..... not too bad at the moment.... maybe will start to prepare myself and my body for the training for marathons.... soon, I hope. =)

Updates

Hey,

Apologizes for my long silence. Been rather tired after work and thus too tired to blog. Maybe just some updates about myself 1st.

1st month pay
Very happy to receive my 1st full-time pay. And I did a very embarrassing mistake. I gave additional $50 to my dad by mistake and had to take back from him when we both returned from work. With my 1st month pay, I finally got a fan that I always NEEDED but no $$ to buy. Now I can say 'bye bye' to all my 'night sauna'. I realized now that we had 'abit more money', we tend to think abit lesser when purchasing affordable stuff which may seems to be alittle ex when we were 'poor student'. Nevertheless, I am now starting to try to put aside some regular savings and perhaps some 'safe' investments so that I can do my degree conversion. =)

With my first month pay, I just went for a hair trimming and treatment. Photos will be uploaded soon I hope. I gave up the idea of rebonding at the moment as it is abit expensive and furthermore how can I leave my hair untied when doing therapy? Perhaps I will try re-bonding after I pass my probation in another 5 months time and as well as a birthday treat to myself. haha....

Graduation - The Class of 2007
Unbelievable that I have survived 3 years of OT Education. It has been truly 3 years. I can still remember sitting next to HuiHui during Orientation and found out that we were both born in 1984. I remembered Pam was sitting either in front or behind me too. That day was 5th July 2004. I still remembers that while waiting to go and play some telematch, we all sat in a circle. We also often mixed up Sze Jie and Zixian. On that day of orientation, OTs claimed more than 1/2 of the luck draw prizes, clinching all the reference books and on top of that OT0401 gotten 1st in the telematch and we won ourselves a basket of tidbits if you all could remember.

To me, the hardest time to past was in year 1 where we were struggling. Not sure if it was for the rest, at least it was for me. Being someone who hates to memorize things, anatomy was tedious, esp. having to remember all the muscles attachments and actions... ... And I can still remember an anatomy prac where all of us scored an 'A'. It was great to see Dr Uma during graduation. Her scent always reminded me of anatomy classes.

And year 2 was the 'funnest' year where we have fun, joy and lots of 'play'. It was the time where we started to build our friendship and starting to be closer to each other.

Year 3 was the most tedious and stressful period where assignments starts to pile up with FYP stuff.... staying till 9pm in the library has became a routine for all of us. The thing that we most hated was to hear the music being played at 8.30pm, telling us that the library will be closing. To add on the 'hate' was that they like to switch off the back lights at 8.45pm.

But it was very heartening to see all of us brave through the storms together as one. Helping one another through clinicals. Being there for one another, lending a listening ears to all to 'grumble' about clinicals and supervisors. We have all gone a long way.... and this is just the beginning....

All the best to all those who will have a chance to experience the seasonal changes in Australia and UK. Study and play hard!

To those who are in the work force, may the force be with you! And of course, we can still meet up and 'grumble' about work, like how we used to do when we happens to met up in the school library.

More updates will be up soon.... gonna zzZZzzz....

A blog entry by MetaOT on : How to succeed in your practice placement (aka Clincial Placement)

Well, when I was an OT student, I think the most stressful part of an education is during clinical placement as that is the time to "put what we have learn into practice". And most importantly, these are real clients. Not our classmates... nor our lecturers..... and whichever we do, we must always remember - "do no harm."

In addition, I feel that clinical placement is not only to "put what we have learn into practice" but also to learn about communications with supervisors, other team members and clients.

Come to think of it, putting ourselves in supervisor's shoes, we are being watched by students 5/7, 8/24. Everything that the supervisor does are under the watchful eyes of the students. (Haha.... at least I would take down what my supervsiors did when I don't understand.... and asked them about it but no harmful intention)

But what I like about some of my supervisors is that they are very open when they are unable to answer us some questions. For that i respect them as they did not just "smoke" through. I do admit that as clinicians, we do not have as much time as students to do research on best practice and stuff and if we do, it will often be after office hours.

This particular entry by Nick Allenby, was interesting, though there was some humour added to it. But I guess OT students will be able to relate to some of the situations mentioned instantaneously, for at least I did. And it lets me to reflect back on what did I do actually during all my clinical placements. But as for the "solutions" given, I did non of them. With the exception of asking for feedbacks. I believe this will help students in improving on things that they have not done well in and of course getting feedbacks on things that we have done well in will boost our confidence. But the 1st and hardest step is to ask for feedbacks and be open to feedbacks as they may not always be positive.

So what did I do when I didn't have positive feedbacks? I will try to take it neutrally/ positively. And try to find solutions to improve. I believe this methods works for all, whether you are a student or a clinician. Not yet tried out at workplace yet... soon i suppose.... as I am someone who requires feedbacks on my performance. =)

Although clinical placements are often stressful, come to think of it, I really do enjoy most, if not all of my clinical placements. Of course I am grateful in having very nurturing and understanding supervisors. And one other thing that I learnt while on clincials, "It is all about our clients."

With that, we will forget about performing well for the sake of performing/ scoring but really because we want our clients to improve. And it works for me. =)

To end off, maybe you guys want to take a look at this entry. But do take it with a pinch of salt. =)

Goals to achieve before I hit 3

Well, I guess I need to plan some goals for myself to achieve. If not, life will be very boring.

Thus, I came out this this plan of mine.... things to do before I turn 28. Wanted to be 30 one... but I guess it will be too long a LTG.... let it be a 5 year plan 1st... haha

My LTGs will be:

  • To clear all my NYP study bank loan within 1 year
  • Of course to start to do my degree conversion by 2009
  • To save my 1st $10 000 by end 2008
  • To run at least 1 half and 1 full marathon by end 2008
  • To get a new lappie/ PC
  • To go overseas with family at least once a year
  • If I can afford... to do my master before I turn 28
  • To have at least 2 social activities/ gathering per month
  • To play a sport
  • To get a driving license
And many many more... ...

(Addendum: Although I would like to add in "getting married" for my 5 yrs LTG.... but I shall let fate decides instead of setting it as a goal. )

Letters

Just an update.... been receiving quite a few letters for the past few weeks....

  1. UniSA
  2. NCSS
  3. NYP
  4. Starhub
UniSA sent me a letter informing me that they are offering me a place for my degree conversion for the year 2008. (didn't recall that I've signed up for 2008)

NCSS replied and tell me that I wasn't shortlisted for the scholarship. It will be too late too even if I was selected.

NYP send me my CCA Transcript. I got a B+. Should have been higher... didn't submit quite afew. But I guess it doesn't matter. NYP also send me information regarding my graduation earlier on.

Starhub reminded me that I have outstanding bills to pay... ... and they are kind enough to sms me too.

This year is the year that I receive the most number of letters. I guess I missed the times when I was much younger and sending "snail-mail" was "in" during that time. I wondered how's everyone now. =)
