It has been a long 7 years since I last stepped onto the island called
Puala Ubin. 7 years has been so long. The trip was kind of random. A spontaneous invitation last Monday from Murni to go to Chek Jawa for photography. Even though I treasure my weekends and always use it to catch up on my sleep, I thought it might be good for me to revisit the island. Furthermore, it might be "now or never". Thus, I managed to drag myself up from my bed at 8am.
Anyhow, the place that I always love for its serenity, is no longer the island I used to know. The quiet and peacefulness was no longer around. Instead it was filled with people, which I thought I could escape from at least for a day. The jetty was full of people.
I remembered how we used to wait at the jetty for 12 people to board. At times, we even had to book the whole boat to travel across. But things are quite different now.
Some photos we took while waiting for out turns:
It used to cost $2 per trip

The bumboat and the beautiful sky
I miss standing at the edge of the boat while the boat is moving. I miss the breeze. I miss the sea.

Spotted a boat that looks like a vessel from Navy or the PCG
Finally we arrived at the place that I have not been for 7 years.
A super old atap house that has been there for decades
Lots of bicycles waiting to be loaned out
Spotted a doggie in a bicycle shop
The island now looks like a small town with lots of people
The natural environment has turned into a tourist attraction in these 7 years of "civilization" and progress. The place is now full of signs where I guess no one would ever get lost in it. I miss the "kampong" style of the island.
Nonetheless, we stepped our feet onto the bicycles and started our journey of the day.
Tongkat Ali anyone?
Nice blue sky

After a while, we discovered we didn't have any drinks with us and we were thristy. So we went to take a rest and equipped ourselves with some drinks.

After that, we finally started cycling to the Chek Jawa.
Wrong way: How nice if our lives has a sign like this
Lots of bicycles
I was shocked to see this huge number of bicycles parked outside chek jawa. But well, it didn't stop us from going in. Took quite alot of photos but just gonna share some that I really like. The rest you can go to my FB to take a look

It was a nice "alone" time. Peaceful place and slow pace. I took my time to take a walk and took pictures while the two of them were far in front. But then, I know no matter what, they will always be there waiting for you. Isn't that what friends are for?
At the end of the boardwalk, it was the cottage house. It has been renovated. The wild boar that used to stay here is no longer here too.

We decided to leave for mainland after Murni mentioned that she was tired from cycling as her bicycle's gear could not be changed.
Finally a group photo

Till then,
I hope that I will be able to share this good place with my loved ones... ...
