Do Pets leave home knowing they are going to die?

I heard the above on the Channel U 10pm drama. I wonder if it is really true and tried to google it and saw some discussion at a forum here. Most of them said their dogs try to run away before they die.

This just simply reminds me of my girl girl who ran away twice on the same day, which soon after, passed away at home. I wished I knew that signs earlier.

In the channel U drama, while I was typing this, the retired policeman found his dog.... and he was so happy... and the dog ran towards him. This simply just reminded me of my girl girl when I found her at the lift lobby.

I just can't control my tears.... I missed her.....

Andy Lau may cancel his wedding?

Sometimes it is kinda weird how others can affect a couple in relationship or going into a relationship. In the yahoo news, Andy Lau may cancel his wedding due to "the constant pursuit of the media on this matter."

See?

I think it not only happens to public figure but ordinary people as well. Have you see guys/gals not getting out of a new relationship because their ex-es said that they will sure breakup? Or how often have you seen someone changing plans because of some "nagging" or constant pursuit of others who are not even involved in the story?

I even see cases where the guy/gal not getting into a new relationship just because their Ex-es were saying that she/he will agreed or give blessing if he/she is going to start a new relationship. He/she just don't want his/her "prophecy" to come true. Laugh. I don't see how and why the Ex needs to agree to the relationship or give blessing. Unless he/she is a priest/priestess..... if not, I don't see how his/her blessing will work. Hmm... maybe there is really a need to be "blessed" by the Ex.... never been in relationship.... don't talk about having Ex. Haha... In the hope to find the ONLY one.... so there will be no other one and no EX.... it may sound naive or unachieveable.... but.. who knows? In any way, it takes both parties to work/nuture the relationship.

If someone can be easily affected by some words or comments made by other parties, I guess abit of work has to be done.

Contentment vs Expectation

What is contentment, expectation and happiness? Does contentment lead to happiness? And then does having high expectations of oneself and others not lead to happiness?

To me, all these are very subjective.

Before we proceed on to discuss further, we need to know what each of these term means.

From dictionary.com,

Contentment refers to the state or feeling of being satisfied with what one is or has, not wanting more or anything else, while expectation means an expectant mental attitude and happiness refers to the quality or state of being happy or good fortune, pleasure, contentment or joy. Of course the antonym(opposite) of happiness will be misery.

I wonder in today's society, how many people actually experience contentment. How many of us actually feel satisfied with what we have? How many of us are still looking for better things despite having good things already? How many of us are wanting better cars, better housings, and even better partners when we have already have one good one? I do agree that it is good to upgrade ourselves, to give ourselves a better life. But sometimes, when we keep chasing these materialistic things, we forget about contentment. The true feeling of being happy and contented. How often have we compare ourselves to others that they have better life, bigger cards, bigger house and perhaps better husbands/wives.

Sometimes we are too focus in achieving something that is so superficial that we forget that deep down, the reason of us wanting it - to feel contentment and satisfied. But we begin to lose that feeling when we keeping "chasing" and "working" for it and later to find out that there are better ones than the one that we had chased. Then what? We continue to chase and chase..... and there will never be the end.

Someone once told me that he has discovered that his brother is no longer simple-minded as what he thought he was. But rather he was easily contented.

To me, alot of people are suffering from stress, depression and frustration is because they are often not contented with what they had. I am not saying that one should not set high expectation and no need to improve. But rather, we should not be focusing so much on the material needs or that glamorous feeling.

Well, to me, being contented and happy is like someone sending you back in public transport when he stays like North/Central while you stays in the east and it doesn't matter if he has a car or not. It's the thought and action that counts. We can't say a person who drives will send you back like the previous guy did if his car broke down. He will most probably ask you to take a cab back while he takes another back on his own.

As human beings, we tends to forget the feeling of contentment. Maybe, sometimes when we feel like everything is DOWN on us..... we should not forget that, there will always be someone who hope to switch place with us.

We should always weigh and balance our contentment and expectations. 100% contentment won't make us grow as a person. With 100% expectation won't make us a happy person even if we have the whole world too, isn't it? We should always balance this two elements so that we can be someone with achievements and happiness.

A compliment or a strategy?

A 7-8 year friend who I last met last year when we went to be instructors for a Pahang camp, called me. He said he has another friend who is an occupational therapist too.

He thought I was working in some hospital and only remembered when reminded him I was working in a Voluntary Welfare Organization. I mentioned that I am not working with the adults/elderly anymore but with children, although it is still at the same place.

He commented something like,

"Working with children require alot of patience right? But okay la.... you always have that extra tender, loving, care."

Well, maybe he had observed all these through our camping days as Cadet Inspectors in Ubin and during NCO camp. I got to agree that although I was strict with my cadets, when they fall sick, my heart just soften. I think maybe that's why I am working in a nurturing profession.

This reminds me of another incident where I was attending to a cadet inspector trainee back in my NPCC days. Can't remember if she was having high fever or sprain her ankle. Some days later, heard from another friend who was her seniors, that that gal commented that I was very caring towards her. Laugh. Sometimes it is wierd how a person remembers you for something you thought was just a small thing to us.

Anyway, I side-tracked alot. =X

Back to that call.....

So I asked him, so what you working as now? Well..... he is a financial advisor with one of the company. Alright.

So now, was the call going to be a catch up or is there agenda to it? Was that "tender,loving,care" a compliment of a truth or was it just a strategy?

I don't know. I may be thinking too much. But for a matter of fact, I don't make new friends who are FA anymore. Had really bad experiences with such people. I only be friends with those who I know before they become FA. Sometimes it is hard to know when are they true friends or those with agendas. Thus, to avoid any unhappiness or hurt from happening to know that had agenda instead, I choose not to make new friends who are FA. Unless, through friends or they proven themselves not to be so. haha..... it sounds like...... they are guity otherwise proven innocent uh? lolx....

NAIL IN THE FENCE

Today, I received it in an email from an adult client that I was treating when I was in adult rehab. I remembered seeing the following email few years back. Nevertheless, do enjoy!

Marriage and Women

In today's yahoo news, Andy Lau is getting married with a Malaysian soon. This lady has been giving Andy silent support for the past 24 years! I applaud her for her undying faithfulness and patience for Andy. I wondered how many women can be like her nowadays. Waiting for 24 years is like..... the amount of time I've on this EARTH!!! I wonder if Andy didn't marry her, what will happen to her? 24 years is a long time. She could be like 20 years old when she's dating Andy? And there might be many suitors after her in the past 24 years! And she decided to stay by Andy. Andy better be good to her.... lolx....

I was also talking to my colleagues on the reason of women going for beauty care and plastic surgery. More often than not, many women, wants to look good because of the opposite gender or for the opposite gender. If not, whats the point of just gals admiring gals? Although that may not be 100% true for all, I believe there is some truth in it. Many of us, want to look good in front of the opposite gender(i.e. boyfriends, husbands, etc) and we came to conclusion that security got a part to play. How is this so?

If a gal doesn't looks pretty, will have low self-esteem that her boyfriend or husband might have affairs outside. Thus, she hopes to prevent such things from happening. Another case is when the husband is a rich guy, the wife wants to look good so that he can bring her out for socialization. Or, even if the woman is pretty but husband is rich, she might be worried that the husband might have an affairs outside.

On the other hand, sometimes some guys do not matter the look that much, but rather the communication between each other, which sometimes gals fail to see when insecurity strikes in.

One of my colleagues asked the few women present,

"Do you really trust men?"

Basically there was silence. For me, I really don't know the answer myself.

Talking about security, I remembered a conversation with someone, who shan't be named.

"Do you feel more secure with a guy that always play game at home or a guy who are outgoing and always go out with friends who you might not know whether he's flirting with other gals or not."

To me, I think I feel more secure with the guy who always play game as I know he is at home playing games （BUT don't let me know he is flirting with some gals on some online networking website instead....) ..... rather than one who always go out with friends.... unless the guy is truthful to me on who he is meeting, even if he decided to meet the Ex.

But I guess no matter how independent a gal may be, when comes to LOVE, I think there will definitely be some insecurity in us.

In-Service and Adidas Sale

This morning, I met up with Juat to have traditional breakfast at the coffee shop near my headquarters before we proceed for our bi-monthly in-service.

During in-service, we had external speaker to come to talk to us on "Communication in the workplace."

Some of the interesting points that I remembered:

• In our Asian culture, it is so easy to complaint, yet so difficult to give compliments.
  
• Often than not, we tends to brush off the compliments, or doubts the compliments.
• Communication has code and decode. When 1 person coded the message and the other decoded it differently, it will have different meaning and may lead to communication breakdown.
• Guys and gals communicate differently. Guys just communicate straight to the point. When gals hungry, we can comment things like "I am so hungry till I can eat a horse!". Guys point of view(POV) - hungry just go and eat la.
  

After the in-service, Juat and me went down to Singapore Expo for the Adidas Sale. Initially when we arrived, we hesitated to go for it as we had to queue to go in and the queue was super long. But in the end, we still went to queue because we don't want to make a waste trip and do not want to regret not going in, even if we decided not to get anything. So we went to QUEUE!
Apparently, the queue moved quite fast and we only waited for approximately 20 minutes before we go in... ...

Well, we got to try them before we decide if we going to buy right? What if buy liao cannot wear? waste money right? So we decided to try.... but if no changing/trying room how?

Flag Day Experience

I had flag day with my organization yesterday. I went to Pasir Ris to take the tin then proceed to Bedok. When the tin was almost full, maybe 3/4 or something, my colleagues and I went back to Pasir Ris to take a new one to go to Tampines. Basically I have made a few observations:

1. Doesn't mean rich people will donate more. Sometimes they are the most stingy people. Forget about asking donation from those ladies with LV bags. Often than not, they will just pretend that they never see you and walk past you.
2. The common reason for not donating: Sorry, I don't have coins/small change.
3. Older people seems to be more generous in donating.
4. To take a puff from work stress, you just need a cigarettes and a lighter. Not forgetting an approved smoking area and a rubbish bin where you can throw cigarettes butts. No wallet or money is needed. Plus, you may get to make "smoking kakis" to go smoking together the next time.
   
5. It is easier to get donation from family with kids. Often than not, the parents/adults will pass the coins to the child to ask them to put in the tin. (At least this is what happened to me when I was younger too.)

2 incidents that happened to me while doing Flag Day:

1. An Indian middle-aged man donated. Took the sticker and paste in on the strap that was sling across my chest! WTH..... Yet he got the cheek to ask me why I took it out.

I was very tired at the end of the day. Not forgetting we had aerobics class the day before. I slept at around 12 30am after smsing someone. =)

Assignment

beer or deer?

Three deer have been caught on CCTV running amok in a beer shop in Pennsylvania in America.

Beer Arena employee Tony Shadler says he was caught off-guard and closely missed being hit, as the deer ran in behind customers who had just left.

After running through aisles and knocking over beer crates, the deer left empty handed and unhurt through the backdoor.

Manager's Farewell in the Office and at Fig and Olive Restaurant

Last Friday, we had a farewell for my centre manager in the office. As usual, we have our international potluck. I wanted to cook some fried udon or vegetarian shark fins one. But as I was in office till quite late on thursday doing some statistics and paperwork, my colleagues were suggesting to me to buy some food early in the morning on my way to work instead of waking up to cook early in the morning. How sweet of them.

We went for a second around of farewell, outside office. We had dinner at Fig and Olive, to cater for both our Halal and Vegetarian colleagues.

To be very honest, I find that their service are so-so and same goes for the food. The beef is also overcooked, according to my colleagues. I won't really recommend this place unless there is no other restaurant that caters to both muslims and vegetarian friends.

None the less, these are the photos of food!!!! People photos wait till I got them from my manager.

I was in bus 22, on the way to meet H²O and Nozomu at AMK for dinner when I saw the following quote on TV mobile:

Fragrance for Women

Yours truly is looking for perfumes to be used. I want something not too strong yet nice smelling even after few hours of putting it.

Currently I have only a Limited Edition Green Apple Body Mist which is finishing and another Jasmine Body mist too. Both from body shop.

Do you guys have any recommendations to make?

I have smelt quite a few recently. Till now, the 2 that I like so far is:

DKNY Be Delicious for Women

and

Hugo Women

There are few others that I am interested in (as recommended by many) but yet to try:

• ISSEY MIYAKE (HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS among my female colleagues and even Guys like that smell!)

Death

Today, over lunch with colleagues, we were talking about deaths. And one of them asked if we are afraid to die.

Hmm.... But sad to say, we are all closer to death each passing day. Whether you like it or not. And each birthday also means a year closer to death.

Some may know, others may not. I am actually near death not once but twice. Three times to be exact but I think the first time I might not die la.

These are my near death incidents:

1. A taxi drove past me even though it was green man on the traffic light. I was just few centimetres away from the wheel. And I remembered very clearly that it was at the traffic light between Tampines Mall and Tampines MRT station.
2. I nearly died of some breathing difficulties. I can't even breathe or talk. Any slight breathing movement was so difficult. Few minutes seems like hours. Can you imagine me waiting to see a doctor at the polyclinic and I have to wait like an hour? I could have die even having a chance to see the doctor. Worse off, I wasn't given any medication to relieve my congestion until I requested for some medication to breathe.
3. I was nearly bang down by a on-coming car in BKK. Actually I was dashing across without realizing there is a car coming towards me on the right. And I can hear the car honking at me. Actually I was shocked for a few seconds after realizing it. That point in time, then I came to understand by what people always mean..... At the most crucial part of your life or near death incident, you will tend to think of someone important to you.

To me, if you want me to die.... just let me die la.... don't come and tell me I got how many years left... how many months left.....

I rather not know.

And... you will only know if you has truly done anything good (karma) in your this life, after you are dead.

What a life.

Not so good day

Nothing much to mention about. But I guess, sometimes when we set our own expectations and performances high at the initially stage, it is difficult for us to slow down or stop in the later stage. For, others will see you not performing as well as before. Sometimes, we fail to see things changes, situation changes, environment changes, task changes and people we deal with also changes.

But in reality,

The only constant in life is changes.
How irony.

Singapore "Fengshui" Affected?

As I was chatting with Alvin on MSN yesterday, we were wondering what goes for Singapore Fengshui for 2009 after the "lightning attack" on the Merlion, one of Singapore's Tourist Icon.

As we all know, some of our tourists attractions landmark has been adjusted based on Fengshui. Taking the Singapore Flyers for example. Last year July, it has changed its direction dued to Feng Shui, so that it can bring fortune to Singapore. More details can be found here, a media release on Singapore Flyer Flying High with Fengshui. And we know in January, the Flyer stopped suddenly due to a small fire broke out in the control room.

As for the Merlion, for those who doesn't know, the MERLION has changed its location from the mouth of Singapore River to the current one that is adjacent to One Fullerton, which is just 120 metres away from the original location. Details can be found here. It was reported that the Merlion faces the east which is an auspicious Feng Shui position and is a symbol welcoming all tourists to the city of Singapore.

I know we shouldn't be joking about this, but on a lighter note, my colleagues and I were saying:

"Merlion has suffered from a head injury. Possibly a head concussion too. Currently, it is also having water retention from not able to pass out the water. It has to be on at least few weeks MC before it can be back to work. Till then, no visitors are allowed."

I also was asking my colleague why Merlion does not have a lightning conductor like most of our buildings and bus stops. And indeed in today's yahoo news, it was reported that they might considering having one. But I cannot imagine something sticking out of the Merlion head. Then wouldn't it look like a swordfish or something? Pondering....

Being cheeky and sarcastic, I was asking my ST colleague who is standing at around 1.92m whether will he be more likely to be strike by lightning than any of us, if we were all stand next to one another. So, it isn't too bad to be short..... just that maybe I have to jump to see things that other taller people can see with ease. Sigh. This so reminded me that I have to jump to see what is going on inside this supermarket (Topsmarket) when I was in BKK when someone can see that with ease... lolx... :


Other than these 2 landmarks/icons, there are also few more landmarks in Singapore based on Fengshui. One of such is the Esplanade and the other one is the Fountain of Wealth, including how Suntec City Towers were constructed. If anything is going to happen to any of our "fengshui-related" landmarks again, I seriously think there is something wrong with our fengshui. Maybe it is a warning to us.......

Like maybe others have said... ...

IS THIS A BAD OMEN?
